Art is everywhere, including digital photography. So, with that in mind, anything you try with your camera will work, but it doesn't hurt to learn new tricks that will help you become a better digital photographer.
When shooting live subject, keep in mind that being at eye-level with your subject will improve the look of your pictures. For example, if you are taking shots of a cat or small children, you should squat or kneel in order to be at eye-level with them. It is not a rule, but try it and you will see the improvement in your photos.
Remember that the closer you are to your subject the more you will fill in the frame. If you cannot get close enough, make sure you use your camera zoom. By filling the in the whole frame with the subject you will avoid having anything that can draw attention away from it.
To keep the viewer focused on your subject, try to have a dull background. That way you don't run the risk of diverting attention from the subject.
Use the flash in your camera even when you don't think you need it. For example, when the sun is really bright, it casts more shadows. Therefore, by using the flash you will "fill in" those dark spots and even out the colors.
Lighting is a crucial factor in photography. So make sure that you have enough light and the your subject is not being darkened by anything.
Keep in mind that different subjects have different shapes and sizes, consequently they need to be shot in different angles. For example, small subjects should be photographed at eye-level. Tall, monumental subjects usually look great when photographed vertically, either from below or from above.
Try shifting your subject away from the center of the frame. You won't regret it and will realize that sometimes you don't need everything even or centered. In order to get clear images without any blur, you need to have steady hands. So, whenever possible, rely on the help of a tripod.
Taking photos is supposed to be fun, fulfilling and creative. Take advantage of the your digital camera's many great features and shoot away!
